The Various Types Of Cerebral PalsyCerebal palsy will affect the muscle tone, movement and motor skills. There are many other problems that this disorder can lead to. Cerebal palsy is caused from brain damage that usually happens during the birth of your child, but can sometimes happen before birth or after. There are 500,000 children and adults that suffer from this disorder, and it is incurable. There are some treatments and therapy that you can do to relieve some of the symptoms but it will not make them go away completely. There are three types of cerebal palsy - spastic cerebal palsy, athetoid cerebal palsy, and ataxic cerebal palsy. Spastic cerebal palsy will cause stiffness and movement difficulties. Your muscle tone will be too high or too tight. And as a result of this it makes it difficult to move smoothly, so as a result there is stiff and jerky movements. This is the most common for cerebral palsy. Ataxic cerebral palsy is when your muscle tone is low. This will cause you to have poor coordination of movements. This type of cerebal palsy is caused by damage to your cerebellum, which is the main control for balance and coordination. So when you suffer from ataxic cerebral palsy it will affect your limbs and the trunk. This type of CP is rare. Athetoid cerebral palsy is a mixture of muscle tone. What that means is that there will be times that the muscle tone is too high and other times it is too low, and this will result in the inability to hold yourself up. You would also have many random and involuntary movements in their face, arms and upper body. Each of these types of cerebal palsy affects muscle control and coordination. And because of this it can make many things that we are able to do without even thinking about it very difficult, such as breathing, the ability to have control over our bowel movements, and even eating. Each of this everyday things are much harder for a person with cerebal palsy and can be hard for the caretaker as well, because of the frustration that the person that has cerebal palsy may have. But there are different treatments that can help control some of the symptoms of the disorder, such as physical therapy, speech therapy, and even botox. There is something that I want to say that is very important, just because a person has cerebal palsy does not mean that they are not smart. They can be just as intellectual as the next person, even if they are unable to speak does not mean that they are dumb, it's just that the disorder affected that part of their brain. So please keep that in mind.
