The Main Cerebral Palsy Cause

There are many different factors that cause cerebral palsy. Some of them can be avoided while others are unpreventable.

Let's start off with cerebral palsy causes that can be prevented.

Fetal alcohol syndrome can cause cerebral palsy. We are all aware of the harm drinking alcohol can be for your unborn child and this is just another example of the damage that it can cause, which leads me to cigarette smoking. Smoking cigarettes during your pregnancy can lower the birth weight of your baby, as you already know, and because of this your baby can be born premature. Babies that are premature are at a far higher risk of developing cerebral palsy.

Cocaine and crack use during pregnancy has many harmful effects on your unborn baby - central nervous system damage, autism, organ impairment, and the list can go on and on. Because of the many of the effects that it causes are the underlying effects that cause cerebral palsy, such as low birth weight, premature birth, and brain damage. These are the major causes of this disease.

Another cerebral palsy cause that can be corrected is inflammation in the amniotic fluid. This risk can be cause a possible infection that can lead to this disease, but if it is detected there are ways to cure the infection and greatly reduce the risk of your unborn child having cerebral palsy. Just because you have excess amniotic fluid does not mean that your child will have cerebral palsy. I myself had excess amniotic fluid for most of the final months of my last pregnancy. Because of this I was required to and visit my OB twice a week, so that they could keep close eye and run some test. Thank God that everything was fine and I now have a beautiful healthy two-year-old daughter.

Now that we know the things that can be done to prevent this, let's take a look at cerebral palsy causes that are not preventable.

Genetic factors, environmental agents, and infections are just a few of the unpreventable causes. Some of these infections include HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, and toxoplasmosis. Some of these infections can go unnoticed and it's a scary to know that you can have an infection inside of you that you are not aware of and it can be harming your unborn child.

When you are pregnant you are always fearful that something will be wrong with your unborn child, and it's a normal feeling. You can help to relieve your fears by keeping yourself healthy and going to your schedule doctor visits.
