Cerebral Palsy Research

There is much research that is being done for cerebral palsy to help improve treatments and the diagnoses of the disorder. The cerebral palsy research is supported through the NINDS, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, or NINDS, and various other smaller groups like nonprofit organizations, private institutions, and the federal government.

The goal from this research is to ultimately find a cure for cerebral palsy by finding a way to prevent it from ever happening. To figure this out there is much that involved, such as understanding exactly what happens during the development of the brain. This is where they believe that the development of cerebral palsy begins. Some other causes can be because of genetic defects, which again will cause brain malformations and abnormalities, and as a result of this cerebral palsy is formed.

Cerebral palsy occurs between time of conception and the birth of the baby. For some reason during the development of the brain something happens that causes a disruption in the normal process and as a result of this is causes cerebral palsy. Through cerebral palsy research they hope to prevent the factors that cause this disruption of the normal processes of brain development.

There are many causes of cerebral palsy, such as genetic defects, which cause brain malformations and abnormalities. Because of this there is much research that is being done to study which genes are responsible for causing this. Other causes of cerebral palsy include bleeding, epileptic seizures, breathing and circulation problems, all of which can cause the release of chemicals. These chemicals can cause the damage that will result in cerebral palsy. So there is research being done to figure out how the chemicals damage the brain tissue, and once the figure this out they will be able to start developing new drugs to block the harmful effects. It's important to know that there is a lot of cerebral palsy research being done in many different ways.

Cerebral palsy makes the individuals life much harder than it may have normally been if they were not suffering from this disease. It's hard on the family as well. So be sure that you educate yourself and your family so you all have complete understanding of what to expect. Getting into a support group is a great way to get help in dealing with this. And hopefully there will be a big break in the cerebral palsy research and there will be a lot less children that will be living with cerebral palsy.
